The Shiva Transversal Flute, follows the line of the bansuri s, inspired by the Hindustani oriental tradition, with the differential of the fingering scale of the notes. To facilitate improvisations in the creation of mystical (oriental) melodies, we adapted the natural major scale to the double harmonic major scale, known by several names: Hitzazkiar (Turkish name), Byzantine, Gypsy major, in India it is called Bhairav scale in the North and Melakarta in the South (Carnatic music).
The double harmonic scale features radial symmetry or symmetry around its root or central note. This scale (and its modes as the Hungarian minor scale) is the only seven-note scale (in equal temperament to 12 tones) that is perfectly balanced ; this means that when your pitches are represented as points on a circle (the full circumference of which represents an octave), your average position (or “center of mass”) is the center of the circle.

Mystical melodies of deep meditative appeal. This transverse flute in the Bhairav scale uses an embouchure, so some practice is needed. But after a period of discipline and a few tries, grades flow naturally and harmoniously. Another one of the beautiful flutes I got from Ralph. I highly recommend!
