The River Cane Flute , is a tribute to the tradition of Native American flutes created with river cane bamboo ( Arundinaria gigantean ). This traditional Native American style flute was easily found among the native peoples of the southeastern United States. It is a flute with a narrow diameter and excellent sound, it has 5 holes maintaining the pentatonic scale and natural mouthpiece of the bamboo itself. We produce it with a more resistant bamboo maintaining the overall shape. River Cane Flute is apparently simple, but its sound has a special glow that touches and elevates us.

NATIVE FLUTE QUESTIONS

The Flauta Nativa Ashar is the bamboo flute model, created following the essential formats of the Native American Flute, which is a specific style of flute developed in North America, whose current characteristics were only standardized in the second half of the twentieth century. Its main features are the two chambers (air slow motion and sound chamber) where the air passage happens through a block that directs the air to the whistle. This characteristic offers a smooth and sensitive sound to breath variations, in addition to facilitating the production of sounds. The second feature that definitely marked the Native American flute with an unmistakable musical style was the standardization of the minor pentatonic scale. This mysterious scale, which takes us back to deep emotions and nature, was already used by other very ancient peoples. The Native Flute has powerful vibrational characteristics that, when playing it, we feel in a few minutes communion with nature and the feeling of "coming home". It is a fast learning flute, which facilitates musical initiation for people who have never played an instrument, creating an opportunity for them to find their music, acting as a powerful ally in meditative, breathing and therapeutic practices.

Flutes are simple and powerful instruments, they are directly related to the vital movement of breathing, the exchange of energy through the breath that carries life, sound and allows expressing the unspeakable. Music, in particular melody, is nothing less than a range of vibrations interacting and relating, with the flute being one of the most suitable musical instruments for initiation into the universe of melodic relationships and combinations.

Breathing is the manifestation of life, the only thing we need to do in the first instance to stay alive is to breathe, and our respiratory system is both involuntary and voluntary, it is possible to exert some control over it, so the act of blowing and producing sound is very magical because it is a creative act, it is movement; life!

The native flute has elements that favor musical awakening, that is, our innate ability to make music, and helps to deconstruct the idea that only people with natural talent for music can make it.

In principle, every flute created by original peoples is considered a native flute, in the Americas, we have many native flutes, Brazil is rich in this sense, because many native peoples have their flutes. However, here we use the term “Native Flute” or Native American Style Flute, as a reference to a specific style of flute, developed in North America, whose current characteristics were only standardized in the second half of the twentieth century. Its main characteristic that differentiates it from other native Amerindian flutes is the fact that it has two chambers (slow chamber and sound chamber) whose air passage from one to the other happens through a block on a table creating a tunnel for the bezel (whistle/chimney). This characteristic offers a smooth and sensitive sound to breath variations, in addition to facilitating the production of sounds.

What definitely marked the Native American flute, with an unmistakable musical style, was the standardization of the minor pentatonic scale. This mysterious scale, which takes us back to deep emotions and nature, was already used by other very ancient peoples. The minor pentatonic scale was incorporated into the native flute with a combination of elements that reason can hardly explain, what we do know is that this marriage combined in such a way that today, the native flute has become a symbol of ancestral redemption, of connection with nature and the path “back home”. Our flutes are created to order. We want to make your flute! When you express the intention of acquiring one of our flutes, your energy will directly influence the flute that will be born just for you or for the person who will receive it. We offer many options and models, which makes it impossible to have all tunings and models available for immediate shipment, as our creation is 100% handmade, all flutes are tested one by one.

What is the deadline?

The delivery time depends on the model, feature, degree of difficulty, availability of raw material, etc... Cad model has an average time frame defined in the description of the flute. May vary from 15 to 180 days. Consult the model you want and if you have any doubts, contact us before making the purchase.

Last Hole Alignment

The choice of alignment for the last hole will depend on the size of the flute and which hand is used below to close the last three holes. The vast majority of people play with their right hand below, in this case, for large flutes, we recommend that the last hole be aligned to the right, as a way of facilitating the typing of this last note on the flute without causing discomfort to the ring finger of the right hand, this way it is easier to close the holes. But if you use your left hand on the foot of the flute (bottom) then the last hole must be cad to the left.

For quena flutes such as E Alto, D Alto, C Alto B and A, there is no need for the last hole to be on the right, in this case it can be the standard alignment in the center, as the flute is small in size there will be no difficulties in covering the holes in the flute. Remembering that to know the approximate length of cad flute according to the tuning, simply consult our Measurements Table. As for medium flutes such as G#, G, F#, F, E, D and C, for people who have small arms, hands or fingers, we recommend requesting the last hole on the right or left, this way it is guaranteed that there will be no difficulties in performing the fingering on the flute. For long bass flutes with 6 holes, we displace the holes of the left hand ring finger and the right hand ring finger, so it is very important to know in advance which hand is superior (used close to the face) and which hand is superior (used close to the face) and which hand is lower (used near the foot of the flute).

Wooden mouthpiece or natural bamboo mouthpiece?

Watch this video ! Choosing a wooden mouthpiece or a natural bamboo mouthpiece does not influence the sound quality because the sound quality is related to the flute whistle and the block or totem. The air chamber, which is where we blow, serves only to guide the air down the block or totem and direct this air to the whistle. The wooden mouthpiece has the advantage of giving a different finish, more aesthetic and also more ergonomic because you just need to lightly touch the mouthpiece to the mouthpiece, without having to open your mouth, just enough to cover the small area of the mouthpiece and quena . The bamboo flute with the natural open mouthpiece does not have the aesthetics of the wooden mouthpiece, but the sound quality is the same. The advantage of the open mouthpiece is that we can easily dry it when we have finished playing and in the long term this makes a difference. This is the great advantage over the wooden nozzle because with the wooden nozzle, the entrance is small quena it is very difficult to introduce any artifacts to clean. With the bamboo nozzle open, it is possible to carry out this maintenance by drying with a flannel and also removing dust with a brush. So basically this is the difference between the wooden mouthpiece and the natural bamboo mouthpiece, it does not influence the sound quality. While the wooden mouthpiece has an aesthetic and ergonomic quality, the natural bamboo mouthpiece has an instrument maintenance quality.
