The Mojave Flute is a variant of the Anasazi Pueblo flute, a vertical rim-blown flute made of bamboo with a 6-hole scale that allows you to easily assemble the major and minor pentatonic scale with a 2-octave range. Its mouthpiece is similar to the Japanese Shakuhachi flute, which allows you to perform microtonal subtleties, blow harmonics derived from the root note, and also play the second octave on all notes. This is a flute inspired by ancestral Amerindian peoples. The Pueblo Mojave flute has a high level of difficulty for a beginner flutist, but it’s worth the effort.
The Pueblo Flute is a tribute to the peoples who lived in the Chaco Canyon region, in northern New Mexico. The site of the ruins was named by the Pueblo Bonito expedition, where some rim-blown flutes were found in excavations carried out in the last decade of the 19th century.
