Ney Flute is a development of the Kawala for adaptation of Arabic music. The Ney has 7 holes, one on the back. Its tuning is adjusted for oriental Arabic music in which 1/4 tone is used. The sound is emitted from the inclination of the flute under the lips forming an angle over the corner of the mouthpiece, it requires training in embo cad and pitch to produce a satisfactory sound, being possible to reach 3 octaves with ease and up to 4 octaves with skill. When we master the embouchure cad becomes an extension of the voice! It is one of the oldest, simplest and most powerful flutes in existence. The Ney was cad by the Egyptians thousands of years ago, its use being documented in tomb paintings around 2700 BC There are basically three styles of Ney : Egyptian Ney Ney and Turkish Ney

Traditionally, Ney or Nay flutes are produced with cane bamboo ( Arundo Donax ), which is a kind of light and fragile cane. We produce the flutes with a more resistant bamboo called Indian cane (Phyllostachys aurea). The bamboo selected for these flutes is of high acoustic quality of medium thickness.
